Back in the fall, we totally transformed Adleigh’s room for the One Room Challenge. Well, Eli was not pleased about this. He wanted a room refresh as well. Now I am not one to be able to do all the projects at once. I need to be able to truly think about them in order to make decisions. So we finished Adleigh’s room and it was time to tackle Eli’s. I think the biggest thing in his room was the paint and the wall decor. Because his room has been the same color since it was his nursery. And his wall decor needed a big refresh.
Start With Paint
For Eli’s walls, we decided to go with two different colors, similar to what we did in Adleigh’s room. I like to two colors because it just makes the space feel more grown up. I was debating about doing it all one dark color but Eli asked for the two colors, so we went with it.
The dark wall is Benjamin Moore Temptation. While the lighter wall is Benjamin Moore Beacon Grey.
We also needed to find colors that would work with his navy blue closet. His closet is Elfa decor. You can watch about how we did that here.
Hanging Prints Wall Decor
I found adorable prints at allposters.com. The posters we found are what Eli picked out. They are sharks and dinosaurs because he is obsessed with them right now. But, since I don’t want to spend a ton of money on expensive wall decor for him since his interests are always changing, I decided to get magnetic picture holders. This way I can buy cheap prints and hang them.
These magnetic picture holders are the best. They come in black or wood. We went with black because his curtains and bedding are black. Plus I think it looks better in his room on his walls.
To create the hanging print, place the poster on the magnetic backing. Then carefully place the other backing on top so it sticks together.
I found it easier to do the bottom magnetic backings first.
The Hoop
Eli also requested a basketball hoop. I didn’t want to get just any basketball hoop. I wanted one that looked cute. So we found this one on Etsy.
I love that we could customize it by adding his name to the hoop. He absolutely loves it and we have to remind him he can’t shoot baskets before his alarm goes off in the morning!
Shop His Room
These are my favorite items we have used in Eli’s room. From his bedding to his chair, everything in his room is perfect for creating a big kid room.
With all of that, it was an easy way to decorate his room. The painting totally changed the feel of the space. Then adding the wall decor that we can change out, along with adding the basketball hoop created a room that would grow with him. I love when we can do easy updates and make the space feel new and fresh.
