Back in high school my friends and I would paint vases. We’d create these flowers and other decor pieces on glass. Then we’d try to sell them. One of my girlfriends got really good and created a business with painting glass flower vases.

It’s been forever since I have tried to recreate these flower vases, and I haven’t thought about them in a long time. But as I was looking through Anthropology’s catalog, I saw something similar to these floral vases we made in high school. I immediately thought of the vases we made in high school, and got inspired to recreate them!

Which was perfect timing, because it is time for another round of My Dollar Store DIY! Everything I used to create these glass flower vases was purchased at the Dollar Tree, except the Q-Tips and paper plates!!

How To Create An Anthropology Copy Cat Glass Flower Vase

  • Acrylic Paint in Red, White, Yellow, Green, and Black
  • Paint Brushes
  • Stencil Brush
  • Vase
  • Paper Plate
  • Q-Tips

Step One

Mix red paint with a dime-size of white paint to a paper plate. Mix using the stencil brush. Dot the light red paint on the vase in a random pattern.

Step Two

Add more white paint to lighten the red paint on your plate. Use your stencil brush to mix together. Dot the lighter paint to the inside of the paint on the vase.

Step Three

Add more white paint to the red paint on your plate. Mix together using the stencil brush. This should be a really light pink color. Add this light pin to the inside of the flower on the vase.

Step Four

Add a small dot of white paint to the very inside of the flower you created on the vase to act as the middle of the flower.

Step Five

After cleaning your stencil brush, mix white paint with green paint on the paper plate. Create a leaf using this light green on your vase. So you are going to want to make a triangle shape.

Step Six

Using the Q-Tips, add dots to the bottom and top of the vase. I used yellow and pink.

Step Seven

Let the vase dry.

Step Eight

Once the vase is dry, take the black paint and a paintbrush with a fine tip to create the detail inside the flowers. I made small squiggly lines for the flowers and dots for the leaves.

Step Nine

Add some detail to the dots around the top and bottom of the vase. I added dots to each of the dots using a fine brush.

Step Ten

After the glass has dried for over 24 hours, put it in the oven on a baking sheet. Set temperature for 350 degrees. Let oven get to 350 degrees, then turn off and let bake inside the oven for 30 minutes. Let cool and your vase is ready to hold water!

Honestly, this project brought back so many memories! It was so fun to try to recreate something that is now making a comeback…like painted vases!
