I am so glad to be back at the crafting again after our month-long organization challenge.  It was so much fun getting the house organized for back-to-school, but I am ready to get my hands dirty (and glittery) with more crafts!  Today I am sharing an easy way to create a plank board sign for your home.

To start, I grabbed my supplies.  There are a few ways in which you can create a planked board sign.  One is to use some 1 x 6 boards, stain them, and attach them together using 1 x 2 boards.  Then, staple gun the twine to the ends.  Here’s a tutorial on how to make one that is quick and easy!

Another way, is to buy a wood pallet plaque at Michaels, along with some glitter, Mod Podge, a sponge brush and Rust-Oelum Wood Spray.

Using my Silhouette Cameo, I cut out vinyl letters that read HOME.  I measured the lettering to be 5 inches by 3.5 inches, so that I made sure that I would have room for the glitter to be sprinkled around the letters.

I attached the vinyl letters to the plank board, making sure everything was spaced out nicely.

I took the sponge brush and Mod Podged all around the vinyl lettering.  I wanted to make it look like it was in a little bubble, so I made sure to get all the corners rounded.

Then I got to glitter!  Can I just tell you how much I love to glitter?  I don’t think I’ve said it enough.  Yes, it’s messy, so I do all the glittering in the garage.  It’s always so cheery in there now with glitter covering the garage floor.

So, back to the project at hand, I covered all the Mod Podge with glitter and let it dry in the sun for a few hours.  I wanted to make sure everything was fully dry before I started to remove the vinyl.  Before I let the sign just sit there, I took a Q-Tip, and removed some glitter from a few spots on the vinyl.  I wanted to made sure I could find where the vinyl started and stopped, so I could take it off easily.

Once the entire sign was dry, I slowly started to remove the vinyl letters.  Make sure you take your time as you remove the letters so that some of the glitter doesn’t rip off.

Using the Rust-Oelum Wood Spray, I gave the entire plank sign a good spray to make sure that the glitter stays in place.  I let it sit and dry in the sun for a few hours, mostly because I forgot about it outside, but also wanted to make sure everything was fully dry.

Now I have a beautiful wall hanging sign to decorate our home!  I have made a ton more signs as I am super into glitter and plank signs right now.  I am even selling a few in my Etsy Shop!  Go check them out and let me know what you think!!

Happy crafting, my friends!
