How To Set Up Hanukkah Decorations For The Kids

Learn how to set up Hanukkah decorations for kids by creating a cart with items for them to explore Hanukkah.

Hanukkah is quickly approaching. And this year I feel like we need even more joy than we typically would for this holiday. I mean, 2020 has been a wild ride, right?!?! So we are going all out for the holidays since it is just our family. And by all out I mean every room in our house will look like it threw up Hanukkah decorations like menorahs and dreidels. #goals. Let’s make 2020 go out with a bang by going so over the top on holiday decor that we forget all our worries! If you are stopping by from Stacie’s Spaces, hello! You can read more about me here.

So I am joining 16 other incredible bloggers in a holiday home tour- kids’ edition. And I am sharing how we decorated the playroom for the kids with tons of Hanukkah decorations and artwork.

Decorating The Hanukkah Cart

I decided to take our bar cart from the kitchen and add it to the playroom. Reason being is that I can put different Hanukkah decorations on the cart that the kids can play with. I started by lying down their drip mats they made back in pre-school. They were just too cute not to save. These drip mats are typically used to go under the menorah when you light the candles. There are also prayers you say when you light the candles on the drip mats as well.

On top of the drip mats, I added some menorahs. We have the kids’ menorah along with the Lego menorah we made last year. You can get the full tutorial here.

On the bottom shelf, I put a Hanukkah book that Eli got when he was a baby. The kids enjoy looking at those books. Then I added some pom poms in an acrylic jar. I laid dreidels out for the kids to play with as well.

And I wrapped our Hanukkah lighter around the entire bar cart to add some sparkle to things.

Making Hanukkah Art

On our art gallery wall, the kids and I made some Hanukkah artwork. We started by painting a bunch of pieces of paper and adding texture to the paper with forks and scrapers. Once the papers dried, we cut out shapes to create menorahs and dreidels. We stuck the shapes onto paper using our sticker maker. This is my favorite trick to getting things to stick. We hung the artwork on the gallery wall to get this room really festive!

I also added garland and pom poms to the gallery wall because I wanted to make it feel like Hanukkah decorations were legit everywhere in our home.

  1. This is so cute! We don’t see nearly enough Hanukkah content for kiddos. I”m not even Jewish and we do a little menorah every year for our daughter. I’m definitely taking some pointers from you and adding in some more interactive items for her. Thank you!
