Hygge has been all over the Internet these winter months. But what exactly does it mean?? Well, it is a Danish word for the feeling of cozy. It is pronounced “hoo-ga” and is one of the reasons researchers believe the Danes are one of the happiest people.
When I organize homes, I like to make the home as cozy as it can be. Because when things are organized and put away, your home feels more calm and cozy. It turns into a place that you want to be. And when the space is both beautiful and organized, you might never leave your home!! That’s the feeling I want to achieve every time my team comes to help organize a client. We want your home to feel cozy.
Hyggelig (pronounced hoo-ga-ly) means homey. It is another way set up your home so you can have that feeling of calm in your surroundings. So how can you create a hyggelig home?? Well there are many components that go into this Danish way of living.

Lighting
Hygge is all about candle lighting and dim lamp lights. By creating an ambiance with dim lighting, you area able to create a space that feels more homey. The biggest thing to remember about hygee is that you should use unscented candles. You aren’t lighting them for the smell, but rather for the ambiance. Candlelight is a comforting visual, so adding candles on pillars or flameless candles is the perfect way to add hygge to your home.
