I has been over a year since our first floor renovation was complete. Every room in our house is put back together, organized, and decorated… all except our living room. I had some grand plans for this room, but just never got around to implementing them. Besides the fact that we don’t have any window treatments on our bay window, I haven’t done a thing to make that space feel like the rest of the house.
So I decided to tackle this room for the One Room Challenge!! Since the living room also doubles as our entryway, I wanted to really make this space feel more like home. And since our home is more of a modern farmhouse vibe, I decided to create a modern farmhouse decor in the living/entryway for this challenge!
Modern Farmhouse Decor Living Room Update
The Before
This space really wasn’t photographed a ton because it was rather dull. I tried my hardest to make this space feel more vibrant, but nothing I did ever really stuck. The walls were a yellowish/beige color, with an accent wall. We got some chairs with a pattern, hoping to make it more interesting.
But as time has gone, I was just not feeling overly excited about this room. So when the One Room Challenge came around, I knew I had to finally complete this space.
The Color Scheme
I love purple. We might have something purple in every room of the house, with the exception of my son’s bedroom! It really is my color of choice when it comes to decorating.
But I also have a lot of navy going on in that room right now, and I didn’t want to part with some things that were navy. So I found a color palette that had dark purples, and navy. Plus we will have lots of white accents.
The Design
For this project, my goal is to use what I have, but add things to give the space some character. We are going to add a love seat in the bay window, along with moving the two chairs that are currently there now to go in front of the fire place. Plus add curtains to the bay window!
I am going to paint the fireplace and mantel, along with updating the shelving and mantel decor. Along with all that, I will be adding more texture and patterns with new pillows and rugs. I may go as far as replacing our current entryway table, but only if I find one I love!!
Throughout this entire transformation, I will be organizing the entire space so I will only be keeping my favorite things. Because why hold onto something you never use?!?!
Now, let’s see how these next 5 weeks go as I try to transform the entryway and living room from bland to modern farmhouse decor! Hopefully things will go way smoother than they did for our powder room transformation I did last year!!
