Resident design expert Stacy is here to share tips for small entryway decor ideas!
Entryways serve a very important purpose… it is the first impression people have when they walk into your home. If your home were to tell a story, the entryway would be the first couple pages of the book, or the introduction.
It’s also a landing place for shoes, jackets, hats, keys, mail… hence it’s of the utmost importance to create an entryway that is both styled and beautiful, as well as functional and clear of clutter. So get ready to greet your guests and make that great first impression… we’ve got 5 tips to make your entryway functional and welcoming!
Five Of The Best Small Entry Decor Ideas
Wall Decor
The entryway is where you set the tone for the rest of your home. It’s a great place to create a family photo wall to display all your favorite photos. If your entryway is small in size, consider hanging a mirror to make the space feel larger that it really is. Or if you are really bold, paint an accent wall for a beautiful pop of color.
Adding some beautiful printables also adds to that wall display. These free printables from Shutterfly are absolutely amazing!
Entry Rug
The first thing your guests will see as they step into your home is your entryway mat or rug. Entry rugs are a soft landing spot and an affordable and easy accessory to update. They are a heavy foot traffic area, so my personal favorites are indoor/outdoor rugs that have patterns that camouflage dirt and harsh wear.
Seating/Storage
A seating bench near the front door is not only the perfect place to sit and tie your shoes, it’s also great for storage. No one wants to have piles near the front door! A bench can double as a storage solution with baskets underneath, or with a bench seat that opens and closes. Create a place to store everything that you use on a regular basis, but also want out of sight. Clutter creates chaos… hide all the chaos!
Baskets & Hooks
You have to be careful because the entryway can quickly turn into the dumping ground for everything! Make sure and create storage solutions for everything that needs a “home”. Baskets are not only decorative but also very functional – they provide ample storage for all your things. Decorative hooks on the wall or a coat rack, are pleasing to look at as well as functional to hang jackets or hats. It’s also helpful to designate a storage basket and hook to each family member. This will cut down on the amount of time your kids will be looking for their jacket, backpack, shoes, etc… a definite “mom win!!” 🙂
Console Table
Having an entryway table near the front door is always a good idea. It can help define your space, as well as creates a designated area to put your mail or your keys – I promise you’ll never lose them again! It’s also a great place to display a family picture, a piece of artwork, or some decorative collectables. Of course you also need a spot for a lamp – no one likes to come home in the evening to a dark house!
So, time to get busy creating an entry you love to come home too. Follow these 5 easy tips and you’ll be on your way to a clutter free, functional and beautiful entryway!
