Who has their house decorated for the holidays?? Are you going more minimal with decorations, or did you go all out?? This year I decided to go rather minimal. Mostly because I was over most of our holiday decorations. So I got creative with them this year.
One of my favorite DIY decorations is a hand lettered piece of butcher paper that I turned into a holiday wall decor for our dining room. Now I don’t have the best handwriting, so I used my paper cutting machine and my Xyron Creative Station to turn a boring piece of butcher paper into an adorable wall display.

DIY Butcher Paper Holiday Wall Decor Tutorial
- Xyron Creative Station with permanent adhesive refill
- Butcher paper
- Black Cardstock
- Sparkly Cardstock
- Cricut Maker
- Paper Clips
I decided to create my butcher paper scroll to have a saying that could stay up past just this holiday season. So I picked “it’s the most wonderful time of the year”.
To emphasize a few words, I used sparkly cardstock. Those words are “most”, “wonderful”, and “year”. The remainder of the words would be cut out in black cardstock.
Using my Cricut Maker, I cut out the words in three different fonts.
Don’t have paper cutting machine? No worries! Just by some pre-cut letters from your local craft store!
Lay out the butcher paper to the size you want to hang. I used some doll furniture to hold the paper in place while I measured. Make sure you have enough empty butcher paper at the bottom to roll, so you can make the paper look like a scroll. I left about two hand’s distance from the bottom of the butcher paper to where the last words would be.
Then lay out the words within that space to make sure you like how it looks!
Run the words through your Xyron Creative Station. Once you have run one word through, place it onto the butcher paper where you laid it out from the last step.
Make sure you rub the adhesive top before you remove to ensure all the letters get super sticky!
Repeat running each word through the Xyron Creative Station with the permanent adhesive refill, then adhering the word to the space on the butcher paper.
If some of the letters or words aren’t running through the Creative Station, try turning it on it’s side and running through that way. Things like the dot of the “I” can be tricky to get through the machine. Just try to get it on the sticky part and run it through.
Roll the bottom of the butcher paper up, leaving some empty space below the words. Hold the paper in place by using two paper clips on either side.
Cut your twine to fit the width of the butcher paper, plus some room to hang. Set aside.
Unroll about three hand’s distance of the butcher paper from the top and cut from larger roll.
Lay twine on top of butcher paper, then roll the paper to create another scroll with the twine inside.
Tie the twine once the paper is rolled to desired length.
Hang and enjoy!
I am so loving how easy this DIY Butcher Paper Holiday Wall Decor turned out. Not only is it adorable, but it can be changed so easily. And it is perfect for all seasons, just by changing the saying on the inside of the butcher paper!
