It’s starting to feel like spring! This weekend was just gorgeous, and involved a lot of playing outside. But as the kids played, I noticed myself eyeing the car, not yet ready to tackle cleaning it out. So, Sunday came and I knew that I had to start cleaning the car, otherwise it would never get done.
Keeping the car organized isn’t that difficult if you have the right tools for the job! I shared how I got the car organized last year and things are still in tack, but I did make some tweaks to make sure that we had to right supplies for this coming spring/summer.
Glove Box
I suggest keeping your really important documents stored in the glove box, so you can find them quickly! Things like car manuals, and insurance cards should be easily accessible in your glove box. I also have my sun glasses in my glove box. I store them on top of my manuals.
I’d also recommend keeping some sort of garbage can to collect any unwanted materials…such as food, or Kleenex.
I keep wet wipes in the front of the car so I can grab them easily if someone gets messy. They are really handy to keep either in the driver’s side door or in the middle console.
Toys
I keep toys and books in the back seat of the car. The toys and books are helpful to keep the kids occupies when we are driving. I use a middle toy holder, but have found that the back-of-the-seat organizers can be very useful in smaller cars, or when the kids are closer to the seat in front of them.
Trunk
I store the majority of my supplies in the trunk of the car. I suggest using either a travel organizer or baggies to store your supplies. I have a hanging travel organizer and these bags attached to the back of the seats using an “S-Clip“.
I always find myself without an extra pair of pants, so I thought it’d be helpful to store extra clothing in the trunk of the car. I made sure to have extra clothes for both kids, including long and short-sleeved clothing.
Using the hanging travel organizer, I stored extra supplies in the trunk that I kept finding myself needed when we were at the park or outside. I started to record these things in my phone so I knew what would be helpful. Some things I included:
- Sunscreen
- Bug Spray
- Contact Solution And Container
- Extra Glasses For Myself
- Hair Ties
- Kleenex
- Baid-Aids
- Chapstick
- Nail File
- Scissors
- Wipes
- Diapers
- Lotion
- Deodorant
- Diapers
- Diaper Rash Paste
- Toilet Paper
I keep the hanging travel organizer closed together using the “S-Hook” and open it when I need to grab something.
I also have a bag for sand toys. If the kids want to play in the sand, I can just grab the bag of toys and let them play. Then, I never have to remember to bring toys!
And, I have an old towel. So, we went to the park the other day, and the slides were soaking. The kids were so bummed that they couldn’t go down the slides and I felt so bad. I decided that I need to keep an old towel in the trunk of the car just so we can clean off the slides if they were covered in water when we got there.
Each time we go out, I try to remember to bring the kids’ water. With the weather warming up, I want to make sure they stay hydrated. But, that also means that I need remember water myself!
And there you have it! My tips for how to organize your car with kids. I recommend keeping your important documents in the glove box. Using the middle console for storing Kleenex and/or wipes. Organize the kids’ toys by using either a middle toy storage organizer or back-of-the-seat organizers. Store extra clothing, toys, and extra supplies in the trunk of the car using travel organizers.
