If you have been following me on social media for any length of time, you may have noticed that I practically live in my glasses.

Like, I went this entire summer without contacts because I was out and needed to schedule an eye exam in order to get new contacts but was too lazy to do it until recently!!  Oops!

So a few weeks ago, I was asked to host an event at Lumen Optical in Evanston, IL.  Seeing that I really needed to schedule an eye exam, I thought I would go test out the place!

Well, needless to say, I feel in love with the facility and their story.  Lumen Optical gives back to the community in a big way.  They have many locations throughout the Chicagoland area, and the Evanston location has partnered with a local school district to give all kids in need an eye exam and glasses!  Talk about taking eye care to a whole new level.

Plus, they don’t do the puff eye test!!  Yes, you heard me right.  They don’t blow that puff into your eye!  They have amazing equipment that takes the out-dated exam to a whole new level.  I am the worst with the puff.  I was honestly like Rachel from Friends when she would go into the eye doctor!  But not any more.

And they do eye exams for every age!  My son recently had to have eye surgery, so I know how important regular eye exams can be.  But keeping up with scheduling them can be challenging!

Between doctors, dentists, and optometrists, I find myself swimming in a sea of appointments that I can hardly keep straight!

Color-Code Calendar

I do keep a planner for all our family schedules.  I have color-coded the planner for each family member.  I keep a Post-It note with each family members color that is written on the calendar.  I know the colors, but for the rest of the family (my husband), I make it easy for them to find our weekly schedules!

Phone Reminders

I also keep reminders in my phone for when to schedule appointments, just to make sure I don’t miss one.  I have one doctor that does not schedule appointments in advance.  I cannot tell you how many appointments I have scheduled much later because of this!  I typically try to find doctors that are able to schedule at least 6 months out.

Phone Apps

Not only are there a ton of apps out there, but there are a ton of old-school calendars to choose from.  I like the calendars with the times in them, so I can make sure not to double-book appointments with the kiddos!

I love using Google Calendar because it syncs with everything.  I have also heard wonderful things about Sunrise, Tempo, and Horizon Calendar.  Most of these apps are for iOS, but some are for any device!

Keep It Local

I also try to keep all of our doctors, specialists, etc. local.  Sometimes when you live in a bigger city it can be easy to schlep to a doctor you have heard great things about, but I really try to keep it within the towns next to ours.

Chicagoland friends, I have a special gift for you…$50 off your purchase at Lumen Optical!!  Tell them that Jessica Litman sent you!

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday!
