With summer in full swing, I have noticed that my days are slipping away from me.  I am not as productive as I was a few months ago.  With the weather being wonderful, I find myself playing outside with the kids all day, which is great, but there are some things that just end up getting left behind.  Things like emptying the dishwasher, laundry and meal planning.  All of this things are crucial for our family to function.  I know it sounds so silly, but we just need to make sure we have blue plates for Eli to eat off of!

So I have come up with a way to organize myself and the family for the week and make sure I get things done, along with stick to a loose schedule for the kids.  You can read all about my stress-free summer schedule here!

I started by getting a giant monthly calendar and colorful pens from Target, and wrote down everyone’s schedule for the summer.  I included every little appointment we had on the calendar.  I made a legend so everyone knows what colors belong to which person in the family.  By color coding the calendar, I can easily scan to see who has to be where when.

Now that I have our monthly schedule created, I went on to create a weekly to-do list.  I started by ordering these super cute note pads from Pretty Little Palace on Etsy.  These notepads work for me because I can prioritize what I have to accomplish for the week.

Using the same colors as I have listed on the giant monthly calendar, I write in what I have to do this week.  So let’s say that I have a dentist appointment, I would write that in on my weekly to-do list in pink.

In addition to our monthly calendar and my weekly to-do list, I have included some events that are happening around town.  I have our pool schedule and other events that I would like to go to.  In our community newspaper and park district bulletin, there are all sorts of events that happen around our neighborhood.  I pull out the flyers for these events and add them to our new command center, located on the side of our refrigerator.

I really like to keep all of our schedules in a location we can see them, so in the kitchen is the perfect place for our family to keep the command center.  This also helps with scheduling as our meal planning command center is located near our new schedule command center.  To check out how I got our meal planning in order, you can read about it here, but I have to apologize for the pictures as I was taking them off of my phone!

So there you have it!  This is how I am keeping myself and my family organized this summer.  By utilizing a command center for meal planning and for our schedules, I am able to keep everyone organized.
