Decluttering cherished or sentimental items can be very difficult. We tend to feel as if we can’t let go of something because it is meaningful, a family heirloom, etc. How do you go through these items and decide what you need to keep and what you can finally let go?

Show Notes
Are you holding on to these items because they truly have special meaning or because you feel guilty for letting it go since it was given to you by someone special in your life? You need to ask yourself this question – is the item something you want to display? If the answer is no, it is ok to part with this item. If you aren’t sure, then put the item away and then set a time to reevaluate.
Take one of these items, and hold it close. Does it give you a physical reaction of happiness? Keep it and display it! You want to fill your home with items that make you happy. Not everything has to serve a purpose. It is ok to part with things that are not making you feel happy or more comfortable in your own home.
If you have a spouse or significant other that has a sentimental attachment to an item, but you don’t feel the same. You need to let them have that joy, but ask them the same question about displaying the item to decide exactly where the item should be placed.
My goal for you is to decide what items are actually cherished items and display those! Have fancy china? Use it! Let’s start using those cherished items instead of hiding them away.
