As I am getting the house ready for the holidays, I decided to dress up the mantel with a burlap banner. I wanted to make something quick and easy. I had a roll of burlap that I used for a project a while ago just laying around, so I thought that would be the perfect thing to use to make this banner.
I started by cutting the burlap to the size of the banner flags I wanted. Since this is a big spool of burlap, I cut it the long way.
Then I folded the cut piece of burlap into thirds and cut at the folds. This made 3 pieces of rectangle that I will use to make the banner.
Taking the cut third piece of burlap, I folded that piece in half and cut a diagonal from the bottom of the unfolded side to the on the folded side making a small triangle.
I folded the top part of the burlap over and sewed a small opening so I can string the banner up. You can also use glue or safety pins to make this opening!
Finally, using a Sharpie, I drew a letter on each piece of the burlap.
I strung the banner up using a pipe cleaner wrapped around string.
I added some ribbon in between the banners to give it some color.
I’m really happy with how it turned out!
