If you struggle with staying focused while decluttering, you’re not alone. Many people, especially those with ADHD, find traditional cleaning methods overwhelming.
The solution?
Declutter Bingo!
This fun, game-like approach makes tidying up feel like a challenge rather than a chore, helping you stay engaged and motivated.
How Declutter Bingo Works
Declutter Bingo is a simple and structured way to clean your space without feeling bogged down.
Here’s how to play:
- Print out a Declutter Bingo Board (or make your own with quick decluttering tasks).
- Choose one task at a time and complete it.
- Mark it off as you go.
- Get BINGO by finishing 5 tasks in a row—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
You can take it a step further and aim for a blackout (completing the entire board), but the key is low-pressure progress. Even a few squares checked off is a win!
ADHD Hacks for Making Declutter Bingo Work for You
People with ADHD often struggle with starting, staying focused, and finishing tasks.
Declutter Bingo helps by breaking the process into bite-sized, dopamine-friendly wins.
Here are some ADHD-friendly tips to make it work for you:
1. Make Progress Visible
Print your Bingo board and put it somewhere you’ll see it often—on the fridge, your wall, or your planner.
Physically marking tasks off gives a sense of accomplishment and motivation to keep going!
2. Use Body Doubling
Find a decluttering buddy! Body doubling (working alongside someone) can make tasks easier and more enjoyable.
If no one is available, try a virtual co-working session or a “Declutter with Me” YouTube video.
3. Set a Timer (The ADHD Goldmine)
Long tasks can feel overwhelming, but short bursts are easier to tackle.
Set a 5- to 10-minute timer and see how much you can get done in that time. It’s a great way to get started without overcommitting.
The bingo tasks are supposed to take no more than 15 minutes every day. So don’t stress. We keep it simple around here!
4. Start with the Easiest Task
If you’re feeling stuck, choose the quickest, lowest-effort task first.
Deleting 10 emails? Tossing expired pantry items? Easy!
Completing one small win builds momentum to keep going.
5. Use a Reward System
Dopamine rewards are essential for ADHD motivation.
After completing 5 squares, reward yourself with a cup of coffee, a short YouTube break, or a walk outside. Make decluttering something you want to do!
