Decluttering doesn’t have to be a big, long task. Especially if you are dreading doing the work. So I am breaking down how you can declutter your mudroom in 15 minutes or less!
Where To Start
Whenever I am starting a new project, like decluttering the mudroom from winter stuff to summer stuff, I always grab my declutter caddy.
The declutter caddy is a bin or bag that holds all the necessary stuff you may need while decluttering.
It’s everything from labels to scissors to cleaning supplies.
Why?
Because it stops you from getting distracted.
Hear me out…you are in the middle of a declutter project and need scissors. So you go to the drawer where the scissor are located, only to realize that the drawer is a mess. So you want to tackle the project too. But don’t finish the first project.
Instead, you can have all your supplies with you to limit distraction and keep you on track.
The Declutter Process
With decluttering a mudroom, I like to start at one end and work my way to the other.
I walk you through the steps I take in the video below.
Our mudroom hooks are grouped together based on family members. My husband has two hooks. The dog has one. I have two hooks. And the kids each have four hooks.
I went through each grouping of hooks to remove any winter items and put them into piles.
One pile was to be washed. The other was dry cleaned.
I washed all the jackets, hats, gloves, etc.
Then I stored them in our front hall closet until next winter.
The dry cleaning coats went into my car. I set them in the front seat because it is a visual reminder I need to stop at the dry cleaners.
