Everyone has them, but they aren’t always the easiest thing to declutter – That’s right, this week, we are talking all about decluttering clothing.

Show Notes

Before starting the decluttering process, you must ensure you are in the right mindset. This is for everyone! Focus on creating a mindset where you are grateful that you have clothes, and if something doesn’t fit you, it isn’t your fault.

Do you feel comfortable in it, like it, and feel good in it? That’s what matters!

By removing clothes we don’t wear, we can see the clothes we wear. When organizing our closets, we must focus on only the items we wear.

When organizing your closet, you have a few options.

You can either remove everything and only put back items you currently wear or pull out the stuff you don’t. I like to remove everything first and put back only what I wear. It offers a fresh perspective.

Ask yourself, do I wear this? Yes, put it back. No, put it in the donate/sell pile. If it’s an “I don’t know,” place it in a maybe pile. As you go, remember the money has already been spent. So don’t let that be a determining factor.

From your maybe pile, try to make an outfit out of the items. Then you can try and wear the outfit and see how you feel in it, and determine if you want to keep it.

Another thing you can do with your items is to turn the hanger backward on the rod. This is a visual reminder to you.

Now, there are times when I recommend that you do not try to declutter your clothing.

One specific situation is if you just had a baby. Give it a year from birth, and then revisit the decluttering. Your body is changing. It isn’t fair to you and your body to put yourself in that situation.

Additionally, I do not recommend decluttering after a loss.

If you do find yourself in those situations, ask for help. You never have to go through it alone!

Here’s to a fun, positive closet-decluttering journey!
