What are shared spaces? I am calling shared spaces those spaces in your home that everyone uses, like living rooms, family rooms, basements, parlors, etc.

Basically any space that is used by multiple people that need to be organized in a way that everyone can keep things tidy is considered a shared space.

So you want to organize shared spaces in a way that makes sense to the entire family.

Which is why in this episode of Organizing Tune-Ups, I am breaking down ways you can organize shared spaces so everyone knows how to keep them tidy!

Show Notes

Shared spaces can include any space that the entire family uses daily – living rooms, family rooms, basements, etc.

You will notice that I separated kitchens from this topic. Yes, kitchens are typically spaces the entire family shares, but often someone in the family has already taken ownership of cleaning, organing, etc.

The first step is to remove anything that doesn’t believe in the shared space. Is the item necessary for the space? if not, remove them! This can be furniture, art, books, trinkets, etc.

The next step is to reduce visual clutter in the space by grouping like items together, or grouping like colors together.

The final step is to teach your family how to maintain the organization. This is the biggest piece of organizing shared spaces.

I know it is so much easier said that done. To help combat feeling overwhelmed, start small!
