To kick off season 3 of Organizing Tune-Ups, we are starting with a topic I am incredibly passionate about – Mindfulness when it comes to organizing!

Show Notes
Mindfulness should be used as an organizational tool.
When it comes to mindfulness, when organizing as a tool, you want to think about the emotions involved in the organizational process. Think about it: you want to organize because the clutter has just become too much. You start organizing a space, and you get everything out, causing an even bigger mess. Next, the thought, “What have I done?” starts to sink in.
Mindfulness comes into play BEFORE you start organizing to help avoid this situation.
Mindfulness practices can include meditation, journaling, working out, walking outside, taking a shower, and/or EFT tapping, to name a few. All of these techniques can help you get in the right mind space to start your organizing. Since everyone is different, only you can decide what will work best for you!
When you reach the point where you want to start organizing, take a few minutes to step back and really make sure you are in the right mental space actually organize.
This strategy really helps if you notice you abruptly reach your limit, start an organizing project, and then almost immediately get overwhelmed. I really enjoy a quick meditation to help me prepare for the project. If it is a particularly sentimental project, I will journal out my feelings.
Finding a mindfulness practice to start using prior to your projects will really set you up for success!
