Show Notes On Organizational Time Management
On this week’s episode, we are going to be talking about using timers as a technique to help you declutter and organize. By using timers, you create the mindset that organizing doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
If the thought of how much time may be needed for an organizing project overwhelms you, then using timers could be a great option for you! There are a few different techniques that you can utilize when using timers:
- 15-Minute Blocks: Before you set the timer for 15-minutes, make sure you have a very specific plan. Don’t say you are going to declutter the entire closet, but instead clean out 12 hangers that you want to focus on. This is the technique that I prefer.
- Pomodoro Technique: This technique is great if you have a large organizing project. You will set a timer for 25 minutes of work, then break for 5 minutes, 25 minutes of work, and then another 5 minute break. A true pomodoro will be 4 cycles = 2 hours. You can always opt for a modified pomodoro as well!
- Time-Blocking: Grouping like tasks together during a specific amount of time. First, write out all of your tasks. Then, group tasks together based on their type and then block an hour for that set of tasks. Try to use a set of 15-minute blocks to with this technique as well.
All of the techniques around using timers are similar, but really depend on the amount of time you are going to be able to dedicate to the tasks you have to complete. You can differentiate like this: time-blocking is more category based, pomodoro is for larger projects, and 15-minute blocks can be used for micro-decluttering.
Pick the timer technique based on what you want to accomplish. Doing this will create a sense of calm when it comes to organizing because you have a technique, a strategy, and plan!
