They say having a cluttered desk makes a cluttered mind…so what does an empty desk say?? Well, I think it says you have space to think and work! I love having a clear workspace. When I don’t, I get rather anxious about all my things I need to do. I feel disorganized and unproductive.
But when my desk is actually clear and tidy, I feel more productive and accomplished. To keep it that way, I have some easy desk organization ideas that can help you create a clutter-free desk!

In order to create a tidy desk, everything needs a home. I always start any organizing job by removing everything from the space. So clear your desk completely. Then group like items together. For me, I have notebooks and notepads that needed a space on my desk, along with my Post-It notes.
To create ample storage, I used InterDesign Cosmetics Organizer for my notebooks and notepads. In the drawer, I store my stamps and return address labels!

Office Supply Organization
When storing your office supplies, you should keep the same items together. For example, keep all the tape together. That way, you know when you are running low.
An easy way to create office supply storage is to use InterDesign Linus pantry bins. Store office supplies in the bins based on the category.
I have grouped items such as tape and staples together. Then all the clips together, things like paper clips, binder clips, and binder rings.
However you group the office supplies, make sure that all the same item is stored together so you can easily keep tabs on how much you have left so you know when to buy more!
Pens and Pencil Storage
I am a total pen snob! I love bright, colorful pens. So, to keep them in good condition, I lay them down instead of having them stand upright. This is better for the ink and the tip of the pen.
To store all my pens lying down, I use drawer organizers that are long and deep. This way all the pens have room to lay flat and I can find them easily!
All those techy components of the desk area need a home too! I use the InterDesign Drawer Organizers to section off my tech stuff. I keep an organizer for my earbuds, USB cords, extra memory cards, and camera card transferer (and, yes, that is the technical name for that thing)!

Another way to create desk organization is to create a space for your files. I am not a big fan of filing cabinets because I feel things get lost in them. But I do love filing boxes and magazine holders to hold file papers.
For the filing boxes, I create categories for each box. On my desk I have one box for work and another for personal. In my “work” box, I keep all my important work documents, such as client folders, business receipts, conference notes, and contracts. In my “personal” box, I keep a file for each family member, including our dog. I also keep our receipts, which are categorized in files by month.
I typically keep the lids off the filing boxes so it is easy to find what I need. Removing the lid also helps when I need to drop my papers in the correct files. It makes things go super fast for cleaning up at the end of the day.
If I recommend magazine holders to clients, I suggest giving each family member a holder. Then create other categories that you have papers for. Drop the papers into the holders once you get them so they don’t pile up. Also create a “to do” holder for things like bills. This is the holder you need to go through frequently.
Finally, when creating desk organization, don’t forget to use the wall space! Try hanging a bulletin board, magazine holders, or clipboards for ample storage.
I love using clipboards to hang things around my desk. It makes it easy to grab and go. Plus, it doesn’t clutter up my desk.
I use a bulletin board for keeping track of projects. I have one board for upcoming projects. And I have another board for projects that I am currently working on. I use Post-It notes to keep tabs on what I need to complete and when. So, by hanging up the bulletin board, I am able to free some desk space but still keep track of the projects!
