Dealing With Toy Clutter + How To Organize It

Toys pile up all the time, and can very easily get out of control. As kids grow, the toy situation changes so there is no set way to organize them. Instead you can build an organizing system that will grow with them. In this episode we are discussing best ways for dealing with toy clutter.

So how do you build the system that can grow with them? The biggest thing is you have to start with the amount of toys you have. My philosopy: less is more.

When you have too many toys, it is easy for kids to become overwhelmed. You may hear, “I’m bored” because the amount of toys is overstimulating them.

There are two ways you can group the toys: based on how they play, or by the type of toy. There are several things that will go into this decision such as how your kids plays with the toys, the number of kids you have, and the space you have to use for toys.

Grouping toys by how kids play with them is great for when you have limited space. By keeping three types of toys together you are eliminating the excess storage space needed.

For families with multiple kids, especially with larger age gaps, organizing the toys by type of toy may work best for you since not every kid will play with the toy the same way.

As they stop playing with a certain type of toy, remove it and replace it with toys they are still playing with.

Developing a system will allow you to reevaluate periodically so you can limit the overall amount of clutter in the toy room!
