I sort of fell into becoming a certified feng shui consultant. It wasn’t something I really had any interest in doing until I found a book called High-Vibe Feng Shui. I ended up reading it in one day because the content was so fascinating.
Because feng shui is all about making your home and your life align, I found myself engulfed in the principles. And the very first thing you do to start your feng shui journey is declutter.
Now there are specific ways in which you need to feng shui declutter, so I am breaking them down for you to follow.
Basics Of Feng Shui
If you are looking for some resources on feng shui before you start decluttering, I have some helpful posts you may enjoy.
Feng Shui Declutter
The idea of using feng shui to realign your home has been around for ages. But there are some guiding principles you can follow. Now notice I say can instead of should. To align your life with your home, you have to truly believe in the process. So nothing is forced. Because your home will feel that forcing energy, and your life will then feel forced.
So focus on what you get to do, rather than what you have to do.
What You May Need To Declutter
Step-By-Step Declutter Tutorial
1. Make A Plan
The first step you can do when using feng shui to declutter is to create a plan. This plan is what you are going to use as you declutter your home.
My suggestion is to make a room list for what areas you want to declutter. These can be specific spaces or just entire rooms.
Write down what you want rooms you want to declutter, then number them starting with 1. The first room is the first space you start decluttering. I know it sounds simple, but seeing it listed out helps keep you focused so you get to declutter and align your home with ease.
2. Get Started
You can spend all the time in the world making plans, but if you don’t start, how will you make any of those plans a reality?
So just start! I like having my declutter caddy ready to go, so I don’t have to search for things to actually get started. Instead, I have all the items that I need in one place. So I can grab the caddy the items are in and get to decluttering.
3. Align Your Home And Self
As you are decluttering your home, make sure you are only keeping items that are a reflection of who you are at this moment. We sometimes hold onto pieces of the past that may not always be in line with who we are today.
This is the part of feng shui I fell in love with. Every piece of your home is something that is representative of you. Who you are. And who you are as a person.
So when you are decluttering your home using the principles of feng shui, you get to surround yourself with the items that you love, that reflect who you are, and what you want to feel when you are in your home.
If something doesn’t feel in line with that, then you can be confident to get rid of it. Maybe that is donating it to an organization you love. Or maybe it is selling an item. Whatever it is, that item shouldn’t stay in your home because it isn’t in line with who you are currently. So align your items with your self.
4. Declutter As You Go
To keep your home in line with yourself, you can always declutter as you go about your day. Maybe you are making coffee and always use the same coffee cup. So ask yourself why you are only using that one cup. And is it time to part with the other cups taking up space in your cupboard?
When you declutter as you go, you are more likely to keep only items that are in line with how you are feeling. This will help you keep your home in alignment with yourself. Making the principles of feng shui work for all your life goals.
5. Ask Questions
Sometimes we need some support while decluttering, which is why I love using questions to ask myself as I declutter. So when you are decluttering, ask yourself if this item aligns with the person I want to be. Does this item align with the person I am currently? Does this item hold sentimental value? Do I love this item? Have I appreciated this item in the past year? Have I used this item in the past year?
When you focus on questions regarding items, you can shift your focus to the purpose of that item, rather than any other value you may have placed on that item.
