Setting Up The Patio

We live in the Midwest, which means we could get a ton of rain or no rain at all. So when setting up our patio, I never want to have anything that can’t withstand some rain. I needed outdoor storage that could handle our frequently changing weather. Which is why I don’t keep an outdoor rug under our patio furniture. We tried it once, and it was so soggy by the end of the summer that I vowed never to do that again!

Think about how you use your space when setting up the patio. For us, I wanted this space to be an extension of our home. We have a giant Sunbrella umbrella to give us shade over the patio area. Then our Ohana furniture can be arranged in various ways to create different seating options depending on what we are doing!

I also love flowers, so I wanted to keep a bunch of flowers in planters in the back! I bought all my flowers from Lowes Home Improvement because I love their floral selection.

Outdoor Toy Storage

My kiddos are still young, so they love playing with toys outside. But keeping everything contained can be tricky. We have done a combination of milk crate storage and using drawers in our garage to store the toys.

Cushion Storage

Our Ohana patio furniture has cushions that do need to be covered. So we have them stored in cushion box that we found at our local Lowes. I can just toss the cushions in the box and they are safe from the rain.

Since we have so many, we have two boxes to store the larger seat cusions and the smaller back cushions and pillows. We did try to keep the cushions covered, but the cover would always blow away. This was the easier option for us!

Grill Storage

Since my husband loves to grill all summer, we have tons of grilling supplies. We store the grill parts in a storage box near the grill. The grilling tools are stored in the kitchen, but all those cleaners and grill mitts are stored outside for easy access.

Towel Storage

Now my kids are really big into playing with water when they are outside. So I store our beach towels near the back door. I rolled them up and have them standing in a bin I got from Target. When they start playing, either myself of the kids can grab a towel without getting the entire house wet when they are looking for a towel.
